BEFORE NEW FLOORING

Concrete Floor Preparation

A concrete slab can look ready while still needing testing or surface work. Get the proposed flooring system assessed before committing to a preparation price.

Check moisture and surface condition

A surface that feels dry does not establish that a slab meets flooring requirements. Ask what moisture testing the product and adhesive manufacturers require.

Old adhesive, coatings, cracks and surface contaminants can affect the next installation. Have the installer identify them before specifying a preparation method.

Understand the preparation allowance

Grinding high areas and filling low areas address different problems. Ask which areas are included and how additional work will be measured and priced.

A patch or smoothing product must suit both the slab and the flooring system. There is no single preparation recipe for every home or commercial space.

Coordinate access and protection

Ask how dust will be controlled, which rooms need to be cleared and whether other work must pause. Put those expectations in the schedule.

Confirm when the prepared surface can receive flooring. Drying and curing instructions depend on the materials used, not a general promise of next day installation.
