BEFORE NEW FLOORING

Flooring Replacement After Water Damage

Choose replacement flooring after the source of water and the condition below the surface have been assessed. New material alone cannot resolve an ongoing moisture problem.

Once the water problem has been assessed, use Tallahassee Flooring Contractors Group to request a conversation with an independent provider.

Resolve the source before covering it

A plumbing leak, outdoor intrusion and slab moisture need different responses. Arrange the relevant repair and drying assessment before planning the finish floor.

Do not assume that a stain proves the floor is dry or that a waterproof plank protects the subfloor underneath it. Ask what evidence supports proceeding.

Separate repair and replacement decisions

The old flooring, underlayment and substrate may need different work. Have findings documented so you understand what can remain and what needs removal.

If the assessment identifies mold or structural concerns, use an appropriate specialist. Flooring selection comes after those responsibilities are clear.

Choose a replacement with clear limits

Compare the new product's permitted use, moisture requirements and warranty exclusions. Water related marketing should not replace a room specific installation plan.

Ask whether trim, transitions and adjoining rooms need replacement for a consistent result. Keep the repair records and the final flooring scope together.
